South East London Family Mediation Bureau (SELFMB) is offering observation / practice placement and co-working opportunities in London and the South East.

Following a successful pilot, The Bureau is now able to offer tailored Mediation placement packages, to meet the needs of recently trained family mediators, as follows:

  • Observe one Mediation session (£162, incl. VAT).

This includes an initial consultation with the mediator and a debrief at the end of the session, (2 hours in total).

  • Further sessions of Mediation observation are available upon request, at the above rate.
  • Following completion of 3 sessions of observation (i.e. 6 hours in total), it may be possible to offer opportunities for co-working, (but not lead mediating) at the above rate, subject to approval by the Service Manager.

These are aimed at offering recently trained family mediators an opportunity to gain experience and to start building confidence to practice. This could be prior to starting, or during the portfolio / accreditation process.

It will provide an opportunity to observe different Mediation styles and techniques practised by the Bureau’s eight accredited (FMCA) family mediators, who are drawn from a variety of professional backgrounds. (See http://www.selfmb.org.uk/the-team/)

The placement will also provide an opportunity to learn more about the ‘Bromley model’ of Mediation. (See Marian Roberts’ article, ‘Hearing both sides: structural safeguards for protecting fairness in family Mediation’. http://www.selfmb.org.uk/about/history/).

The Bureau is an established and pioneering family Mediation practice based in Bromley. It is proud of its collegiate ethos and supportive working environment.

Please note that our Bromley office offers out-of-hours appointments on Tuesday evenings and alternate Saturdays, which may make it easier for trainees to attend observations, if they are working.

Applicants are invited to send their CV, name of PPC and a copy of their PI insurance certificate to: Andrew Sims, Service Manager, at andrew.sims@selfmb.org.uk
